Humberside Tri at Fire Service X-Country Championship

Sunday 2nd October saw 6 of Humberside’s finest athletes join over 100 runners at Stowe
School to take part in the annual UK Fire Service X-Country Championship. This was the 34th
running of this event & the 25th anniversary at this historic venue.

Conditions on the day were the complete opposite of a normal wet & muddy race, a barmy
26 degrees & bright sunshine made it more like an August afternoon. Plenty of lumps thanks
to the (rather sadistic) race organiser Eddie Gutteridge made for a tough 8k (4 lap) course.

This however didn’t deter our runners with Jo Brown picking up an excellent 2nd place in the
women’s race & selection to represent UK Fire Service this season, well done Jo!

Our men although not as successful, by no means embarrassed themselves, a last lap
duel between Fuller, Walsh & Lawson saw Walsh robbed of his lead in the last 200m with
Forrester & Critten following shortly behind. Our first 3 men also being invited to represent
UK Fire Service this season. This is the first time in quite a while that Humberside has had 4
runners selected for National level. So a good day at the office all in all.
